I Learned to See the World Again

I recently attended a four-day Digital Storytelling workshop organised by Lions Befrienders.
I thought I was signing up to learn how to create better photos and videos. I left with something much more valuable.
I learned to see differently.

Now I see the world through a new lens.

In the past I enjoy a photo or video as a consumer. Now I asked questions as a producer. 'how was it done?' 'Can i replicate the same effect'.

As I immersed in the craft of storywriting through photos, videos and text, I stop seeing objects and begin seeing patterns that others miss.

A videographer sees stories unfolding in time. They don't merely see a person walking across a room. They see light, movement, emotion, pacing, and the sequence of moments that will become a compelling narrative.

A photographer sees light. While others notice a beautiful scene, the photographer notices where the light falls, how shadows shape emotion, and the decisive moment of pressing the shutter for that moment that will never happen again.

A memoirist sees meaning inside memories. Others remember what happened. A memoirist asks, "What did this experience teach me?"

A writer sees stories hidden inside ordinary events. A bus ride, a meal, or a conversation becomes a window into something universal.

The world hasn't changed.
The way I look at it has.
