The Most Wanted Job in the World
If you are job hunting, good news.
There is always vacancy.
Job title: Salesperson.
Every company needs one.
Small business. Big corporation. Startup with bean bags. Uncle’s provision shop downstairs.
All of them need someone who can bring in revenue.
If you can sell, you are never unemployed.
You can sell products.
You can sell services.
You can sell ideas.
You can even sell yourself in an interview.
Yet most people hate the word “sales.”
They imagine a pushy person chasing you with insurance forms at a wedding dinner.
They think selling means begging.
Or worse, disturbing people.
But let’s be honest.
When you go for a job interview, what are you doing?
Selling.
When you ask your boss for a raise, what are you doing?
Selling.
When you convince your spouse that buying that gadget is “actually an investment,” what are you doing?
Elite level selling.
Selling is not about forcing people.
It is about understanding people.
It is about solving problems.
It is about making someone feel safe enough to say yes.
The reason few people succeed at selling is simple.
They are afraid of rejection.
They take “no” personally.
But selling is a skill.
And skills can be learned.
You can learn how to communicate clearly.
You can learn how to listen properly.
You can learn how to handle objections without sweating like you just ran 2.4km in the army.
The world does not reward the most talented.
It rewards the most visible and persuasive.
You can be the best designer, writer, engineer, or hawker in town.
If nobody knows, nobody buys.
Master selling, and you control your own income.
You are no longer waiting for someone to approve your pay rise.
You become the pay rise.
If I could give my younger self one career advice, it is this:
Forget chasing the perfect job title.
Learn how to sell.
Because in this world, the person who can create value is good.
The person who can sell value is unstoppable.
What is the first thing you would sell if your income depended on it?
