Unemployed Pte Ltd: How to lose your job and find your freedom

Making Sense of Unemployment When Nothing Makes Sense

Here is a true story.
It could be your story.

He was laid off after 13 years in the same company.
Not because he failed.
Not because of performance.
Just restructuring.

“When I apply for jobs, some say I’m overqualified.
The ones that pay what I’m worth say I’m underqualified.
How do you stay motivated?”

That question hit hard.
Because layoffs don’t just take away income.
They take away certainty.
Identity.
Confidence.

The response he received wasn’t about polishing résumés or sending more applications.

It was this:
Sometimes, when we don’t move on our own, life moves us.
Not to punish us.
But to redirect us.

The man loved cooking.
He had always been good in the kitchen.
It came naturally to him.
But he spent his life doing sales work instead.

The layoff wasn’t the end of his story.
It was the moment the noise stopped long enough for him to hear what he already knew.

Fear was the real thing holding him back.
Fear of failing.
Fear of starting over.

But someone said to him gently:
“You’re already laid off.
What are you still afraid of?”

That line stayed with me.
Many of us aren’t broken.
We’re in transition.
And sometimes, losing a job isn’t rejection.
It’s permission.

In the past, I hugged my job the way someone hugs a teddy bear or a tree in a storm.
Because I depended on it for survival.
Because I couldn’t imagine how to survive without a job, when facing an avalanche of bills.

But the Universe decided to force me out of employment, from the comfort of the Zoo into the wild.

In the wild, I discovered a bigger world beyond the frog’s well.
I discovered my own strength and capabilities.
I got to pursue what I love and live life on my own terms.
I found myself and my life purpose.
I witnessed the grace of God.
The kindness of supportive people.
And the quiet miracles that happen when you live by faith.

It is still a hard life.
But it is meaningful.
And it is joyful.

This is why I wrote Unemployed Pte Ltd: How to Lose Your Job and Find Your Freedom.

Not as a motivational book.
Not as a career manual.
But as a quiet companion for people who are in-between.
Those who are still capable, still valuable, but unsure what comes next.

If you or someone you know is walking through retrenchment, burnout, or uncertainty, this book is for you. Sometimes, the end of one job is the beginning of a truer life.
