Why you need a website

Q: I am a prolific blogger on Facebook. I am afraid to lose them if for whatever reason the account is banned. Shouldn't I put a copy on a website?

Answer: Yes, you absolutely should have a copy on your own website. Relying on Facebook for your entire writing archive is what experts call "building your house on rented land."

If your account is banned, even if you did nothing wrong, your content disappears from the internet immediately. Furthermore, if the content is gone from Facebook, Google will eventually de-index it too, meaning your "prolific" history could vanish from search results within weeks.
