Worth Beyond Rank

When I was a young NCO, I truly believed every officer outranked me in every possible way.

In the military, it’s easy to feel like your worth is entirely measured by the insignias on your chest.

I was the one always saluting and greeting the "superiors," never the other way around.

But everything changed when I was posted as an IT technician.

One afternoon, I got a call to set up the computer in the minister's office. Walking into that room as a junior rank can be intimidating, but as soon as I sat down, the dynamic flipped.

In that moment, rank didn’t matter. The stars and bars on their shoulders couldn't fix the screen. They needed me, and what mattered was whether I could solve their problem.

That day, I discovered something that rank badges never taught me:

Never underestimate your worth. There will always be a moment where someone needs exactly what only you can do.

Never let a title make you feel small. Your skills and your willingness to help have a value all their own.
