Playing to My Strengths
I joined officer cadet training but failed to graduate.
I spent a long time reflecting on the reasons.
Perhaps I was too shy, spoke too softly, feared making mistakes, and lacked the boldness expected of a military leader.
I was more of an analytical strategist and planner than an infantry platoon commander shouting orders at the men.
At the time, I saw the failure as a disappointment.
Years later, I became a Defence Executive Officer (DXO), an officer of a different kind.
I eventually realized that my strengths simply lay elsewhere.
Success comes more easily when we play to our strengths instead of trying to become someone we are not.
